Mixed C and Mixed B got their seasons underway on Wednesday night in the final round of interclub matches. The match saw a new look Mixed C team with a new Captain take on a familiar looking Mixed B team. Mixed B made only one change from the consistent lineup from last season, Maire being unable to play and so Carla taking her place, other than that it was the same team that won the league and cup last season, Connnor Henry and Tom making up the mens, and Sarah and Jess being joined by Carla. New Mixed C team captain Joe selected Sean, Will and Himself for the mens, and Megan, Kaye and Jordan for the ladies. Last season, the mixed C team finished with no wins on the board, but based on Wednesdays performance they will not be in the same position this time. Pushing the Mixed B men to 3 games in the first rubber, the final game ending 25-23 with Mixed B pair of Connor and Tom just squeezing over the line against Sean and Will. Jess and Sarah’s game took a similar route, losing the first game and then winning the next two against Megan and Kaye. Henry and Connor were taken to 3 games in the the 2nd rubber, Sean and Joe were unable to keep their momentum going losing the 3rd of the rubber. Jordan and Megan took on Sarah and Carla, but the Mixed B pairs proved too difficult. Tom and Henry managed to avoid another 3 game rubber, by beating Will and Joe 23-21 in the 2nd game to take that rubber while Jess and Carla finished off the ladies games also with a win against Jordan and Kaye. With the game sitting at 6-0 to the B team, mixed C wanted to get some rubbers on the board, and they did with Sean and Megan taking Connor and Carla to 3 games, and finally getting that point on the board. Will and Kaye started well against Sarah and Tom, taking the first game 21-17 they looked in control and ready to take the 2nd game, but Sarah and Tom re-grouped and won the 2nd game 21-5 and then went on to win the final game. Henry and Jess played out the final game of a long night against Joe and Jordan, they were able to top off a good Mixed B performance by winning the final rubber. The scoreline did not reflect how close the games were, and when then teams meet again on Monday it is sure to be a very tight contest.
