Crunch Cup Match

The Brackley Town Mixed A and Mixed B teams came head to head on Wednesday night in the Semi-Final of the cup. Despite winning the league this season, mixed B were given a sizeable advantage in the match of 198 points. This put the pressure on the Mixed A team to win comprehensively. The first rubber of the night was close, with Eoin and Molly taking on Connor and Maire, the first game went in favour of Connor and Maire, but Molly and Eoin then turned it around to win the 2nd 21-12. Calvin and Carla then carried on the winning start by beating Tom and Sarah 21-16 and 21-19. Henry and Jess were able to get a draw in their rubber against Dan and Charleigh losing the first game 21-16 but winning the 2nd game 21-19. Calvin and Carla took on Connor and Maire next, and then Mixed B team came out on top 21-16 and 21-19. Some games were then played out of the usual order, with Eoin and Molly beating Tom and Sarah 21-16 and 21-15. Henry and Jess started well against Calvin and Carla, but then were unable to win their games losing 21-16 and 21-8. Dan and Charleigh were unable to follow on from winning the first game of their next rubber 21-14 and lost the 2nd game to Connor and Maire 21-14. Eoin and Molly finished off with another strong performance against Henry and Jess, winning 21-14 and 21-16. Dan and Charleigh had the pressure of the final game, which Tom and Sarah were able to win 21-17 and 21-16, including a small outburst from Mr Hopkins kicking the innocent tube of shuttles over.

Mixed A had the pressure of starting off the game behind, and they proved why they are the A team at the club by scoring more points on the night 349 to 309, but due to the nature of the cup and the handicapping system, Mixed B will be the team going through to the final.
