Grudge Match Monday II

Monday night saw the reverse fixtures of the Mens and Ladies A and B teams playing each other. Changes to all the teams, would this change the result?

The Ladies B subbed in Paula for Kaye, which made the team Megan, Jess, Paula and Mags. Jordan made her league debut for Brackley coming in for Charleigh, making the team Carla, Molly, Maire and Jordan. The B team came out strong from the start, winning the first 3 rubbers, Jess and Megan beating Molly and Carla 21-17 and 21-14, with Mags and Paula following suit winning against Maire and Jordan 21-19 and 21-15. Going into the first change of pairs, the B were on top, and continued this with Jess and Mags beating Molly and Maire, but only just with both games going to setting, 22-20 and 23-21. But the next game was decisive, Megan and Paula were 21-15 up in the first game and seemingly cruising past Carla and Jordan, but the new pairing, Jordan on her debut turned it around to win the next 2 games to take the rubber and set the match up 3-1 in Rubbers. The A team dug deep in the final round of matches. Molly and Jordan coming back from a first rubber loss of 21-17 to win the next two 21-16 and 22-20, and Carla and Maire taking a 2 game win in the final rubber 21-12 and 22-20 topped off a good comeback by the A team. Not the result the A team would have wanted overall, but every point counts when you are pushing for the title.

Final Result: Brackley Town Ladies A – 3 vs Brackley Town Ladies B – 3

The Mens B made two changes their team from the week before, Mark and Tim giving way to Captain Will and Ben W making his first Match appearance. Sadly it was the result Ben would have hoped for in his debut with the team slipping overall to a defeat. Will partnered up with Ben T, Ben looking to avenge this close losses last week. Jonathan and Ben W making up pair 2 and then Nadeem and Joe completing the B team. They were up against an A team with just the 1 change, but also changes in partners. Henry and Connor continued to play together, keeping up their good performances from last season and last week, Dan and Tom were split up with Sean partnering Dan this week in place of Calvin. That left Eoin and Tom to play as pair 3. As with last week, there were some close games, but in the end it seemed that the Mens A experience in matches and playing with feathers prevailed and they took the match 9-0 to top off a very good start to the season for the Mens A team.

Final Result: Brackley Town Mens B – 0 vs Brackley Town Mens A – 9
